Parquet in the kitchen: natural and spacious
Natural parquet brings an atmosphere of well-being into modern kitchens, and with the right treatment and care, it can withstand the demands of everyday use.

The kitchen is at the heart of every home and is used every day by most households. It is a place for cooking, dining, laughing and just having a great time together – be it an evening with friends or a Sunday brunch with family. This is a place for socialising, communication and enjoyment, and let’s not mince words: the best parties also take place in kitchens.
Clients who build new houses often want a large living and dining area with an integrated kitchen. Continuous parquet floors laid in the living room and kitchen area underscore the spaciousness of this home concept and create unity through harmony.
In addition to the look, the degree of hardness plays an important role in choosing the right type of wood for parquet in the kitchen. The reason for this is that the kitchen is at the heart of the home, and as such, it (and its floor) sees much more use than any other room. For the parquet to withstand such sustained wear, the following types of wood are particularly suited for kitchens due to their high density:
· Oak
· Ash
· Walnut
· Cherry
Because mishaps are very common in the kitchen, parquet with a lively wood character is recommended. A more expressive grain can discretely conceal any signs of use.
Different surface treatmentsare used to protect the wooden floor against moisture and dirt. The choice here lies between natural-oiled and lacquered parquet.
Lacquering the wood proofs it when many thin layers of lacquer are applied. This results in a robust surface that is very easy to care for. However, with scratches and stains to the upper layer, the underlying wood loses its optimal protection. Combined with moisture, this can lead to damage that is difficult to repair.
Natural-oiled parquet requires regular care. However, deep proofing with oil provides better protection against moisture, especially along the edges. At the same time, possible damage can be corrected more quickly and easily by grinding.
Thanks to Bauwerk’s parquet surfaces being free of harmful substances, and the antibacterial effect of parquet, nothing is standing in the way of hygiene-sensitive work or eating in the kitchen.
With the right parquet, full-area bonding and carefully sealed joints, parquet can last as long in the kitchen as in any other rooms, making it an excellent way to create smooth transitions between different living areas.
