Retreat overlooking the Pennine Alps: architect firm Atelier Charvoz turned a picturesque mountain station at a height of 1,365 metres into an exclusive retreat. A deliberate choice in favour of clear design vocabulary and natural construction materials was made for this renovation, strictly adhering to a balanced colour palette in different shades of brown.
Timeless herringbone parquet becomes the perfect mediator in a dialogue between modern and traditional elements, like the round sink and the radiator. Wood played a significant role as a key material for the new design, offering a warm contrast to the rocky mountain landscape in the Alps: a place where, according to the architects, parquet is fairly uncommon.
Our Formpark Quadrato planks combine the beauty and natural flair of wood with modern design, smoothly complementing the concept of slowing down and taking stock, as represented by this 42-square-metre space. The height of the rooms, the glazed door and an indoor window also let in ample daylight, making it possible to emphasise individual elements. The pattern of the parquet was deliberately oriented towards the incoming light, helping it to penetrate deeper into the room. This preserves the depth of the floor’s natural colours, without the effect being overwhelming.
