Aarhus airport – feeling at home
Fans of Nordic design will love the city of Aarhus. Architectural Digest magazine has called the city a paradise for design aficionados, with historical 18th century buildings, modern mid-20th century architecture, independent boutiques offering products by local manufacturers, and an enormous new waterfront district with futuristic apartment buildings.
Aarhus airport lies to the north of the city. As a rule, airports are public spaces with large numbers of people where function usually trumps form. However, the architects from Schmidt, Hammer & Lassen wanted to imbue the Aarhus airport with a home-like feel, something that is both inviting and elegant. The idea was to suppress that sense of stress and hurry, and the ambience of this public space was to be made as pleasant as possible.
